The Board of Control for Cricket in India released the schedule for the upcoming TATA IPL 2022. In total, 70 league matches and four playoff games will take place over the course of 65 days. The 15th season will begin on March 26th at the Wankhede stadium. In the first game of the IPL 2022, defending champions Chennai Super Kings will face Kolkata Knight Riders.
Doubleheader matches will be held on Day 2, the 27th of March. The first match will be between the Delhi Capitals and the Mumbai Indians. Subsequently, the second match will be between the Punjab Kings and the Royal Challengers Bangalore.
The event will conclude on May 29 with the final. The IPL 2022 will feature a contest between ten teams. The tournament now includes two new teams, the Lucknow Super Giants and the Gujarat Titans. Meanwhile, the IPL auction 2022 took place last month, with the 10 franchises selecting a total of 204 players.
Group matches
BCCI has established two virtual groups for IPL 2022. Mumbai Indians, Kolkata Knight Riders, Rajasthan Royals, Delhi Capitals, and Lucknow SuperGiants are the teams in Group A. Group B includes the Chennai Super Kings, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Punjab Kings, and Gujarat Titans.
Every team will play two matches, one against the other team in their group and one against the team in the opposite group. They will play one match against the opposing group’s other teams. Consequently, each side will get to play a total of 14 games throughout the league round.
Match venue
Maharashtra will host the IPL 2022. All of the matches will take place in four different venues in Mumbai and Pune. The three sites in Mumbai are Wankhede Stadium, Brabourne Stadium, and DY Patil Stadium. The fourth location is the MCA Stadium in Pune. This arrangement is to limit the number of flights available to players. For the first half of the matches, only 25% of the stadium is allowed to be filled.
Wankhede Stadium and DY Patil Stadium will host 20 matches for the IPL. Meanwhile, Brabourne and MCA International Stadium in Pune will host 15 matches each. Meanwhile, the MCA Stadium in Pune will host its inaugural game on March 29th. The Sunrisers Hyderabad will face the Rajasthan Royals there.
There will be a total of 12 double headers, with the opening match beginning at 3:30PM IST. All evening games will begin at 7:30 p.m. IST. The final league stage game will take place on May 22nd at the Wankhede Stadium between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Punjab Kings.
