Some miscreants attacked the Delhi Capitals team bus ahead of the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The squad has arrived in Mumbai to begin preparations for the IPL 2022. The team found accommodation at the Taj Mahal Palace in Colaba.
Head coach Ricky Ponting and assistant coach James Hopes joined the team on March 15. They have their opening match on March 27 with Mumbai Indians at the Brabourne Stadium.
Mumbai Police Response
The Mumbai Police has filed an FIR against miscreants accused of assaulting the Delhi Capitals team bus when it was parked. The attackers’ identities are unknown. According to certain media accounts, the miscreants are members of the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena.
“An FIR has been filed against 5-6 unknown individuals,” ANI reported from the police. “We filed the charges under IPC sections 143,147,149,427 for allegedly assaulting the Delhi Capital team’s parked bus.”
How Did The Attack Occur?
A half-dozen MNS-Vahatuk Sena (Transport Wing) activists gathered alongside the bus shortly before midnight. Following that, they affixed posters with their demands on the front of the bus and were observed raising chants.
They also damaged the windows of at least one of the buses parked outside the hotel, according to reports. The players used these vehicles to trave; between the training facility and the stadium for the forthcoming IPL matches.
Delhi Capitals Recent Activity
Last Monday, the Delhi Capitals unveiled their new uniform for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022. Delhi turned to social media to show off their new shirt, which is an improvement over their previous season’s gear.
On Saturday, Delhi released a video of the introduction of their new shirt. Captain Rishabh Pant, fast bowler Anrich Nortje, and new addition David Warner posed with the new jersey in the video.
Meanwhile, this week saw the appointment of Shane Watson as the Delhi Capitals’ assistant coach for the 2017 season. He’ll work as a coach alongside former Australian teammates Ricky Ponting and James Hopes. Meanwhile, Rishabh Pant will take charge of the team once more, and all eyes will be on him.
Prithvi Shaw, Axar Patel, and Anrich Nortje remained with the Delhi-based franchise. They did, however, have to let go of some big names, like Shreyas Iyer, Shikhar Dhawan, Marcus Stoinis, and Kagiso Rabada. Instead, they signed David Warner, Mitchell Marsh, and Kuldeep Yadav.
Meanwhile, the IPL 2022 is shaping up to be a spectacular event. Two new clubs, the Lucknow Super Giants and the Gujarat Titans, have joined the fray. As a result, for the first time since the 2011 season, a total of ten teams will compete for the prestigious title. The matches begin on March 26 and will take place over four different locations in Maharashtra.
