Weeks before the beginning of the Indian Premier League, we have a piece of new news from the Gujarat Titans franchise-Rahmanullah Gurbaz will replace Jason Roy.
Gujarat Titans will recruit Rahmanullah Gurbaz in place of Jason Roy, who pulled out of the 2022 Indian Premier League last month.
The choice isn’t exactly a like-for-like replacement for the hard-hitting England opener. Still, the Gujarat Titans management has taken the choice keeping the present Wriddhiman Saha issue in mind. Saha is their first-choice keeper, but they wanted to possess a backup option. This is done so as to avoid being caught off-guard by an unexpected turn of events.
In a report by Cricbuzz, contract papers of Gurbaz, a 20-year-old wicketkeeper from Afghanistan, are already with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for Gurbaz has played in nine ODIs and 20 T20Is during a 14-month flourishing career. He came with a base price of Rs 50 lakh but went unsold at the two-day auction recently.
Gurbaz will be joining compatriots Rashid Khan and Noor Ahmad within the Gujarat team. Furthermore, he becomes the fifth Afghan within the league which also has Mohammad Nabi (Kolkata Knight Riders) and Fazalhaq Farooqi (Sunrisers Hyderabad) from the country.
Jason Roy left the Ahmedabad franchise after citing personal reasons and bubble fatigue. He went under the hammer of Rs 2 crore. The matter has since become a hot topic of debate among the franchises. A view is that the overseas players shouldn’t be allowed to miss the league by the BCCI for reasons aside from international commitments or fitness issues after one has enlisted his name for the auction.
