The IPL 2022 season will begin on March 26, and it will be an interesting edition with the addition of two new clubs. The teams formed their core at the IPL 2022 super auction. Expectations to see Virat Kohli in the role is increasing day by day.

As Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) is the only team in the competition that has yet to appoint a captain.

Will Kohli Return?

Who will be the next Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) captain? By any measure, the buzz surrounding the subject is on par with that of any other cricketing topic in the country right now. Last season, Virat Kohli led the squad as captain but stepped down in the second phase. Some, though, believe that the talismanic batsman might return to lead the side.

The pressure was rising on Virat Kohli to deliver as RCB’s captain. Over the years, he has failed to lead the club to a single IPL title. As a result, the 33-year-old chose to declare his decision to step down from the position even before the IPL 2021 season ended.

Virat Kohli had previously agreed to step out as India’s T20I captain. Later, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) dismissed him as the team’s ODI captain. The story completely unfolded when Kohli resigned as Test captain, freeing himself of all obligation.

Aakash Chopra’s Take On The News

Former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra believes that Royal Challengers Bangalore will revert to Virat Kohli as captain. This is due to the fact that, after stepping down as captain of the national team, he will only have one tournament to lead.

“When Virat Kohli left RCB’s captaincy, he had just left the T20I captaincy and stated that he wanted to concentrate on leading India in one-dayers and Test matches. But that didn’t happen; he was removed as ODI captain and stepped down from the Test role. Now that he’s not captain, there is only one tournament where he has to lead,” Chopra spoke on his Youtube channel.

“RCB might go back to him because the situation is changed. He is going to play for RCB for the rest of his career. The association between Virat Kohli and RCB is like MS Dhoni and CSK. So, why not one more year? It’s not a bad thing. Over the past few years, RCB’s performances have improved. They reached the playoffs in the last two years.”

However, Chopra stated that he believes the RCB should not re-appoint him as captain. “If he had thought this through, don’t burden him now. It might actually be a good thing for RCB. He might now bat with more freedom and more fearlessly. Kohli is not getting younger. He has faced a lot of pressure in these past many years. So, I personally think RCB shouldn’t go back to Virat,” he stated.

“From RCB’s perspective, I believe sometimes, you need a new direction. A new leadership, a new thought process. So, I believe you shouldn’t go back to him.”
