The beginning of the IPL is just around the corner. With just a little over a month for the tournament to begin, teams are in full prep mode.

The respective franchises have spent all their big bucks on the desired players for their teams. Everyone is coming after the IPL’ 22 trophies. The teams are all training for the tournament to bring out the best in players. In this particular article, we talk about the Kolkata Knight Riders line-up. The 2012 and 2014 IPL winners will be coming after the 2022 trophy.

The Squad

Kolkata Knight Riders retained four players. The budget they had was of Rs. 33 crores. The franchise spent Rs. 42 crores in the 2022 IPL Mega Auction. Furthermore, having blocked the extra 9 Cr, the difficulty wasn’t clearly visible then, but it had been clearly visible during IPL 2022 Mega Auction when the team couldn’t make the purchases they might have wanted to.

The most significant outcome for the Kolkata Knight Riders from the Mega Auction was the acquisition of their captain, Shreyas Iyer. Additionally, Kolkata Knight Riders managed to get 2021 superstars like Shivam Mavi, Pat Cummins, and Nitish Rana. Moreover, most of the team players bring fresh energy to the table.

Overall, KKR did a good job in creating their team.

Batting Order

Kolkata Knight Riders surprised everyone once they did not retain their most vital opener within the last two years, Shubman Gill. As it is, Gill may not be the famous name in T20 Cricket. But he is seen as a future investment of a great player. He was consistent for the Kolkata Knight Riders, and with them, he could get better. Now that Shubman Gill isn’t there, Kolkata Knight Riders may fall back to their 2018 strategy of playing a foreign opener. The good thing for the Knight Riders is that not only have they found a great leader in Shreyas Iyer, but they also found a uniform batter – the difficulty they encountered with Eoin Morgan, who was not a consistent batter, is possibly resolved. Shreyas Iyer can provide a great contribution at number four.

The only thing the Knight Riders would face may be a lack of solid wicket-keeping options. They need to play Sheldon Jackson at any cost within the lower middle-order. This provides the side with more balance. However, Sheldon isn’t an enormous name in India.

Bowling Order

Coming to the bowlers, KKR has almost replicated their 2021 bowling with the likes of Pat Cummins, Shivam Mavi, Sunil Narine, and Varun Chakravarthy. The sole difference they need in their bowling is Umesh Yadav’s presence in situ of Prasidh Krishna. Overall, KKR has a good bowling attack.

Conclusion

Overall, KKR has a good squad. With a few adjustments in playing orders, they should be really competitive. The 2022 IPL will be even more action-packed due to the entry of the two new franchises.

Fans are eagerly waiting for the schedule and opening game.
