The Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) recently announced the signing of Australian bowler Andrew Tye. He will fill in for Mark Wood in the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022.
At the IPL 2022 mega auction, England’s fast bowler sparked a bidding frenzy. LSG outbid Mumbai Indians in a bidding war to sign in the pacer. Finally, LSG acquired him for Rs 7 crore, more than three times his basic price of Rs 2 crore.
Wood was England’s standout bowler during a dreadful Ashes series, taking 17 wickets at 26.64 in four Tests. However, during the Test match against the West Indies, the English bowler suffered an elbow injury. As a result, he has been ruled out of the entire Indian Premier League 2022.
Andrew Tye’s Career
Andrew Tye is not a comparable replacement for Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). However, the Australian fast bowler, who depends heavily on his variations, is a seasoned IPL client. Tye has played 32 T20Is for Australia.
Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) bought Andrew Tye for INR 1 crore. Tye has appeared in 27 Indian Premier League games. He took 40 wickets at an economy of 8.46 and an average of 21.8. The 35-year-old has played for the Chennai Super Kings, Punjab Kings, Rajasthan Royals, and Gujarat Lions in the past.
Andrew Tye made his IPL debut for Gujarat Lions during the 2017 season. In his first game, he took five wickets against Rising Pune Supergiant. Tye, a limited-overs specialist, was awarded the Purple Cap in 2018. In that season with Punjab, he took 24 wickets at an average of 18.67.
LSG Bowling Arsenal
Along with Tye, LSG has a strong pace assault led by Avesh Khan, Dushmantha Chameera, and Ankit Rajpoot. Shahbaz Nadeem, Bishnoi, Hooda, and Krunal will lead their spin-bowling department. Karn Sharma, a leg spinner, is also part of the team.
Avesh was the IPL 2021’s second-highest wicket-taker, while Chameera has been Sri Lanka’s recent mainstay bowler. Rajpoot is also a fast-bowling specialist. All-rounders Jason Holder, Marcus Stoinis, and Kyle Mayers will back up the trio.
The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 will go off on March 26. All of the league stage games will be contested in Maharashtra at four separate sites. Wankhede Stadium, Dy Patil Stadium, Brabourne Stadium, and Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium will host the games.
Meanwhile, the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) will kick off their season against the Gujarat Titans on March 28 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. KL Rahul captains the Lucknow Super Giants, while Hardik Pandya captains the Gujarat Lions.
