The Gujarat Titans gave the Lucknow Super Giants a reality check in their first match of the IPL 2022 season. LSG, one of the pre-tournament favourites, was defeated in their first match. KL Rahul, the captain of Lucknow, suffered a golden duck and had his leadership called into doubt once more.
LSG will next face defending champions Chennai Super Kings. CSK also suffered defeat against KKR in the opening match of the league’s 15th edition. LSG has begun preparations for their season-opening match against Chennai Super Kings. Will Rahul make a few changes to his starting lineup to improve his team’s chances?
Changes In The LSG Squad
LSG captain KL Rahul stated that he “couldn’t have wished for a better start” following their defeat in their first IPL 2022 encounter. The remark went viral on Twitter. Many admirers attempted to decipher Rahul’s remark. It’s difficult to go past the performances of their two Indian hitters, Deepak Hooda and Ayush Badoni.
The starting positions may very well remain the same. Rahul will bat first alongside South African great Quinton de Kock. Neither of them contributed to the team score in the previous match against Gujarat. Rahul suffered a one-ball duck out, while De Kock only got 7 runs out of 9 balls.
Mohammed Shami delivered an absolute gem as the first batter for KL Rahul. He got bowled out for a golden duck. However, fans expect KL Rahul to bounce back strongly in his next match against CSK. He’d also like to get his act together as a captain.
Shami beat LSG skipper Rahul with an outside ball. Meanwhile, de Kock got caught in an angled ball that crept through the gap between his bat and pad. South Africa’s wicketkeeper-batter must perform well in the second match.
Evin Lewis may very well remain at No. 3 for the foreseeable future. The West Indies left-hander would be upset with how he got dismissed in the previous encounter. In the previous encounter, he only scored 10 runs from 9 balls.
Manish Pandey was another flop for LSG, scoring only 6 runs off 5 balls. However, it is too soon to demote him to the bench. Deepak Hooda and Ayush Badoni both scored half-centuries in the previous encounter, putting up a strong showing. Krunal Pandya also demonstrated his batting potential, scoring an unbeaten 21 from 13 balls.
Dushmantha Chameera was the Super Giants’ best bowler in the last encounter, taking two wickets for 22 runs. Avesh Khan and Mohsin Khan delivered subpar performances.
The team management may bench Mohsin Khan in the match against Chennai. Instead, they could give the opportunity to Shahbaz Nadeem or Krishnappa Gowtham. Ravi Bishnoi will be LSG’s first-choice spinner once more.
