The Disappointment

Mumbai Indian skipper Rohit Sharma is on thin ice and will possibly face a one-match ban within the ongoing tournament of the Indian Premier League if his side fails to take care of the specified over rate.

Rohit has slapped with a fine of Rs 24 lakh. In contrast, the remainder of the members within the playing squad were fined Rs 6 lakhs or 25 percent of their match earnings, whichever is less, after the IPL encounter between MI and Punjab Kings, as his side did not finish the 20 overs within the required deadline on Wednesday (April 13). Earlier, the ‘Hitman‘ was penalized Rs 12 lakh for an equivalent offense after the clash against Delhi Capitals.

The official rules on minimum run rate requirements state: “The third and every subsequent offense during a Season as Captain of the bowling squad, the Captain will be fined Rs. 30 lakh and banned from playing within the Team’s next League Match.”

If Mumbai repeats the offense for the third time, Rohit will be fined Rs 30 lakh. He would also face a one-match suspension as per the official rules laid by IPL.

On Wednesday, Punjab Kings beat Mumbai Indians by 12 runs.

It was the fifth-successive loss for the five-time champions Mumbai Indians. They continue to be the only winless side within the ongoing IPL 2022 season. Right now, they are lying at rock bottom of the points table.
