Shane Watson, a former Australia all-rounder, is making a return to the Indian Premier League. This time, he’s been approached to work as an assistant coach with the Delhi Capitals of the IPL. 

According to sources, DC is interested in recruiting Watson as a coach after receiving a referral from Ricky Ponting. According to the article, both parties have agreed on terms and conditions. Moreover, they expect Watson to sign the contract in the near future prior to IPL 2022.

The assistant coaches from last season, Mohammad Kaif and Ajay Ratra, have left the Delhi-based club. Kaif took over the post in 2019, whereas Ratra only stayed for one season (2021).

Watson’s IPL Career

The 40-year-old has a wealth of expertise in the prestigious Indian Premier League. Watson has represented the Rajasthan Royals, Royal Challengers Bangalore, and Chennai Super Kings, among others. 

Shane Watson has scored 3874 runs at an average of 31.0 and a strike rate of 137.9 in 145 IPL games. Additionally, he has also taken 92 wickets with the ball, with an economy rate of 7.93 and an average of 29.1. As a player, he has also won two IPL titles, one with Rajasthan Royals in 2008 and the other with Chennai Super Kings in 2018.

Agarkar Also To Tag Along With Watson

Ajit Agarkar, a former India bowler, may also join the Delhi Capitals as an assistant coach according to rumours.

After completing his commentating duties in the home series against Sri Lanka, which begins on February 24, Agarkar will join the franchise. The IPL 2022 will likely commence, In the last week of March.

Former right-arm bowler Ajit Agarkar has represented India in 26 Tests, 191 One Day Internationals, and four Twenty20 Internationals. In his illustrious career, he has taken 58 Test wickets, 288 One Day International wickets, and three Twenty20 International wickets.

DC’S Auction Performance

In the IPL 2022 Auctions, the Capitals performed some clever business. This season, the Delhi Capitals have the best team. They kicked off the auction with a bang, paying INR 6.5 crore for David Warner. 

Delhi Capitals managed to bolster their roster by signing players like David Warner, Mitchell Marsh, Kuldeep Yadav, and Shardul Thakur. They have players like Sarfaraz Khan, who got a century in a domestic match lately. Despite the lack of a great spinner, the spin department can manage by cultivating other players.

Captain Pant’s contribution to their hopes of winning the trophy this time is also essential.
