Just as the 40-year-old wicketkeeper-batsman came around for the toss in the debut season as Chennai Super Kings captain on Sunday, he was greeted with a standing ovation. Ruturaj Gaikwad and Devon Conway poured on just the season’s greatest partnership of 182 runs to help Chennai Super Kings, who seemed to have MS Dhoni returning as leader on Sunday, to a convincing victory. After former captain Ravindra Jadeja decided to step down concerning the squad’s six defeats in eight matches, the star striker captain was reinstated.

Dhoni’s statements: 

Dhoni further stated before the toss that he’ll be wearing the “yellow” shirt in the upcoming campaign. Danny Morrison confirmed that he will be returning in the yellow jersey in an interview with Danny Morrison, but he did it with a sense of anticipation.

After conceding the toss, Dhoni stated that everyone will certainly see him again wearing the yellow jersey [in upcoming Edition], whether the same yellow jersey or any other such yellow jersey, that’s a separate matter.

It was Dhoni’s maiden time following the four-time IPL champions in the current season. Exactly two days before the 10-team tournament began, he handed over the captaincy mantle to Ravindra Jadeja. 

Dhoni also remarked after such a game that Jadeja couldn’t handle the strain and subsequently quit his job to concentrate on his own game. Further he said that he believed Jadeja knew he’d be managing a team for the previous season. Moreover, Dhoni oversaw Jadeja work for the first two games and left him to it later. He encouraged him to make his own judgments and take accountability for them during that.
