TATA IPL 2022: Royal Challengers Bangalore Vs Kolkata Knight Rider, Bangalore Bags The Win By 3 Wickets

Despite the lack of success in the Indian Premier League (IPL) in previous years, Royal Challengers Bangalore shocked everyone. In an astonishing performance against Kolkata Knight Riders, former champions got a taste of defeat. By scoring a win over such a strong team, RCB has taken off a great start in this season of TATA IPL 2022.

Match Highlights

In the beginning ritual of toss, Royal Challengers Bangalore established their win by choosing to bowl first. With a strategic bowling line-up, RCB managed to all-out KKR in 18.5 overs. During the first half of the match, KKR batsmen played with all their hearts to score 128 runs. 

In the first few overs, Akash Deep and his fellow pace bowler rattled KKR’s top order. Royal Challengers Bangalore was led by Faf du Plessis as the latest skipper. With his skills, Faf changed the track record of opening losses for RCB. Nitish Rana and Sunil Narine opened the match from KKR’s side. 

Sri Lanka’s Wanindu Hasaranga was able to manage to nail four top batsmen throughout the game. His inspired leg-spin skillset helped the team of Bangalore to bowl out Kolkata Knight Riders. Hasaranga’s bowling made skipper Shreyas Iyer fold at just 13 runs. Russell in his attempt could bag only 18 of 25 and fell caught behind Harshal Patel. Moreover, it allowed Royal Challengers Bangalore to overhaul with four balls left after the same late drama at Mumbai’s DY Patil Stadium.

Nevertheless, Tim Southee and Umesh Yadav, two fast bowlers were able to take 5 wickets from Bangalore. It shook up the top and middle order before Sherfane Rutherford stepped into the field. Sherfane scored 28 runs which were then assisted by Dinesh Karthik’s unbeaten 14 runs off seven balls. Rutherford’s partner Shahbaz Ahmed could score 27 runs before getting stumped by Varun Chakravarthy. 

Rutherford and Hasaranga were taken down by Southee in the same, to keep the game in control. Coming to the aid of his team, Karthik hit it off with a six and four off to Andre Russell in the final over.

To sum up the match Dinesh Karthik’s extraordinary closing moments stunned the audience. Andre Russell marking his 400th T20 match got the ‘Crack It Sixes’ award. Wanindu Hasaranga received the award of ‘game changer’ as well as the title of ‘most valuable asset’.
