Alzarri Joseph a.k.a Alzarri Shaheim Joseph is an all-rounder, right-arm fast bowler and a right handed batsman. He is an Antiguan cricketer and plays for West Indies in Tests and in ODIs. Furthermore, Mumbai Indians franchise selected him in place of Adam Milne during the 2019 IPL season. He received the Barbuda Sportsman of the Year award in 2016.
Alzarri Joseph played against Sunrisers Hyderabad, marking his IPL debut with the numbers of 6/12 which is quite impressive for a debutant to hit. Alzarri was the second player to take a five-wicket haul after Ander Tye on Indian Premier League debut. Currently he is playing
Alzarri Joseph’s journey hasn’t always been peaches and roses. Unlike the fortunate ones, his career started in his backyard where he bowled to his father. Alzarri then started playing for the age-group teams for Antigua and Leeward Islands and graduated to playing his first-class cricket sometime in 2014-15. His numbers were pleasing to look at as he took 7 for 46 against Windward Islands in late 2015.
Alzarri took his coaching from Winston Benjamin, a former West Indies pace-man. Joseph looks up to Dale Steyn. In the 2016 U-19 World Cup, made the list of the best five bowlers hitting an average of 13.76 along with an economy rate of 3.31 overall. Alzarri bowled the fastest delivery of the tournament at a whopping 143 kph thunderbolt. It successfully targeted Zimbabwe batsman Brendan Sly’s wickets.
During the Regional Four Day Competition (2014-15), Alzarri Joseph played his first-class debut for the Leewards and he took his maiden first-class five-wicket haul in the next season against Guyana. The numbers appeared to be at 5/99 opening the bowling with Gavin Tonge. In the season following it, Alzarri took another five-wicket haul.

He joined the West Indies squad in December 2015 for the Under-19 World Cup 2016. Joseph delivered an outstanding performance by taking 13 wickets from six matches and finished as his squad’s leading wicket-taker. He received the Man of the Match after his performance against Zimbabwe getting stats of 4/30.
For the 2019-20 Regional Super50 tournament, joined the Leeward Islands’ squad in late 2019.
Alzarri Joseph also joined the West Indies Test squad in July 2016 for the series against India. In the third match of the series, on 9 August 2016, Joseph made his Test debut. Two months later, on 2 October 2016, he made his ODI debut against Pakistan. He received the contract across all formats of the game in October 2018.
He received an honest share of appreciation when he continued playing against England regardless of his mother’s unfortunate demise in early 2019.
Alzarri Joseph joined the Test Squad for West Indies in June 2020, when they played against England. Initially, the series started in the fifth month of 2020 but because of the sudden COVID-19 pandemic, it shifted to July 2020. He hit 86 runs in the second innings that also happened to be his maiden Test fifty and a defeat against New Zealand in the last month of 2020.
He played for the Amsterdam Knights at the Euro T20 Slam cricket tournament in July 2019. The tournament got canceled next month. The Mumbai Indians franchise released him ahead of the 2020 IPL auction and went unsold in the 2021 auction. A year later, Gujarat Titans bought him for the 2022 IPL tournament.
In March 2019, Alzarri Joseph joined the Mumbai Indians squad as a replacement for Adam Milne in the Indian Premier League. In 2019, he played his Indian Premier League debut against the Sunrisers Hyderabad and posted figures of 6/12, the most impressive bowling figures for a debutant, beating Andrew Tye’s 5/17 in 2017.
These were also the best bowling figures within the IPL, breaking the eleven-year-old record held by Sohail Tanvir (6/14) and, therefore, the runner-up T20 bowling figures after Deepak Chahar. He also became only the second player to require a five-wicket haul on his IPL debut, after Andrew Tye.
