Axar Patel, or Akshar Patel, is an Indian Cricketer currently playing for Gujarat Titans in the Indian Premier League.

Axar Patel is an all-rounder as he is a left-handed batsman and slow-left arm orthodox bowler. He is the ninth bowler for India to get a five-wicket haul in Test cricket on the debut game. His career-best for the T20 International figures 3/9 from three overs. Furthermore, he received the Man Of The Match as well for the same game.

Domestic Career

Axar, in his second First-Class match against Delhi, took six wickets for 55 runs in the first innings. Axar played just one game in his debut season for Gujarat. But he had a really good 2013 season.

Axar Patel joined the Mumbai Indians as a bowling all-rounder ahead of the 2013 season. Surprisingly, he did not even play a single match that season of the tournament.

Patel also was one of the key players in the ACC Emerging Teams Cup for 2013. In total, Axar Patel took seven wickets and had a four-wicket frenzy in the semi-final against the UAE.

Furthermore, he was one of the most consistent players for Gujarat in the Ranji Trophy. He finished the season with 369 runs with an average of 46.12 and took 29 wickets too. With this fantastic season, it was pretty evident that he received the 2012/13 BCCI U19 Cricketer Of The Year.

Furthermore, he joined India’s Red team’s squad for the 2019-20 Duleep Trophy.

International Career

After his splendid performance in the 2014 edition of the Indian Premier League, Axar Patel joined the Indian squad for the tour to Bangladesh for a One-Day International series. Furthermore, he also became a part of the World Cup squad for India in 2015.

He made his T20 International debut in the same year against Zimbabwe. Furthermore, he was among the stand-by players for the Indian squad. In 2021, Patel joined the team for the Test series against England. His first international Test wicket was Joe Root. Furthermore, he took a five-wicket haul in the exact match. In the three games he played, he took 27 wickets, finishing the series as the second-highest wicket-taker. Furthermore, in the same year, he scored his first half-century against the New Zealand squad.

In 2021, Axar Patel joined the Indian squad for the 2021 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup. However, he lost his place, and Shardul Thakur came instead of him.

IPL Career

Axar joined the Mumbai Indians for the 2013 Indian Premier League and remained on the bench for the whole season, and left the team after that season. Then he joined the Kings XI Punjab in 2014 and had a fantastic season by taking 17 wickets. Axar went to bat in the lower order and scored 206 runs in total, taking 13 wickets in the 2015 season. Furthermore in 2016, Axar took the one and only hat-trick of the season against the Gujarat Lions.

He stayed at Kings XI Punjab for the 2018 and 2019 seasons of the Indian Premier League. He was retained by the franchise of the Kings XI Punjab for the 2021 season of the Indian Premier League.

Best IPL Performance

Axar Patel put up a show against the Gujarat Lions. Axar put up a four-wicket haul in Rajkot. Furthermore, Punjab Kings put up a disappointing batting performance. Bowlers came to the rescue and took four wickets to help Punjab win the game.
