Dayalan Hemalatha, born on 19th September 1994, filled with passion and that rush which took her to the national level. This women cricketer coming from the magnificent state of Chennai, goes by the name of Dayalan Hemalatha. With all the progress she has made throughout her career she firmly stands above all odds in the Women’s Indian Cricket Team. Her father was quite supportive of her idea of pursuing the sport as a career. On the contrary, her mother was not so keen about heading into cricket.
Over the many years with immense performances delivered, cricket has not been just a game but a very emotional and supportive sport. The professionals and team players do not face any kind of gender discrimination. The times have changed, issues like gender discrimination in 21st century do not matter anymore and one of the living examples is Dayalan Hemalatha. It is equally important to perform well in the game. Nevertheless, by channelizing the emotion to her game, she excelled in reaching soaring heights.
In her initial years, Dayalan Hemalatha had little to no clue about what cricket is exactly. The foundation of her cricket path was from the street game. She used to play a game with its own set of rules in the suburbs of Chennai. Heading as a professional in the field of cricket had never been on her mind until she joined M.O.P. Vaishnav College for Women. Hemalatha Dayalan when moved up for her higher education, she had no plan on making a career in cricket. While she followed up on her education, she had a massive change in her life. Hemalatha started attending cricket camps along with her college friends.
Journey Of Becoming An All-Rounder Player
While shinning in her studies, she always made sure that nobody would question her skills. She started playing on the pitch and experienced a lot of exposure. Under the pressure of becoming successful, she shined like a diamond. Her hands-on experience started with the right hand in the batting section. Besides this, she also gave a shot to the bowling side where she played as right-arm off-break bowler. As a result of trying both sides, she not only aced in batting but also in bowling and finally decided to be an all-rounder player.
In the year 2011, Dayalan Hemalatha was called up to Tamil Nadu state level which helped allow them to build up the backbone of her career. As expressed by herself she used to silently visit the camps just to observe her seniors. This observant behavior helped her to focus and groom her skills. As time went by, she stood with her head held high in the Senior South Zone Team 2013-2014. Gradually she started to strive and climbed up the ladder.
By the year 2016, Dayalan Hemalatha got a huge chance to represent for her very first Challenger’s Trophy. Without any expectations, she kept on grinding and then never looked back to the days she played in the suburbs of Chennai. Later in the year 2017 she got a life changing moment. She became the 125th ODI player for the Women’s Indian Cricket Team. All her life’s hard work, the observations she made and the practices she went through, it all paid off.
Every drop of sweat concluded her debut in the Women Indian Cricket Team in March 2018. The first international exposure she thought she received was when she got listed into the international squad for the series against England. Unfortunately, Dayalan Hemalatha was not able to perform in front of the audience she deserved. But this was just a stepping stone for the fame she was about to encounter.
In the first match she played, she scored 37 runs in a one-day international match against one of the most competitive teams, Australia. Since then, Hemalatha Dayalan has not looked back because once you start moving ahead in this sport, the love of the game does not let you.
