Rishabh Pant is an Indian cricketer who comes in as a middle-order wicket-keeper batsman for India, Delhi, and captains the Delhi Capitals within the Indian Premier League. He also became the vice-captain of the India U-19 team for the 2016 Under-19 Cricket World Cup. 

Pant made his Twenty20 International debut for India in January 2017, his Test debut in August 2018, and his One Day International debut in October 2018. Furthermore, in January 2019, Pant made it to the ICC Men’s Emerging Cricketer of the Year list at the 2018 ICC Awards. In February 2021, Rishab received the Men’s Player of the Month within the first edition of the ICC Player of the Month Awards.

Personal Life

Rishabh Pant was born in Roorkee, India. His father’s name is Rajendra Pant, and his mother’s name is Saroj Pant. At twelve years of age, Pant would travel with his mother to Delhi during the weekends to coach at the Sonnet Cricket Academy with Tarak Sinha. He and his mother stayed at the Gurdwara in Moti Bagh as they didn’t have suitable accommodation within the city.

Sinha advised Pant to switch to Rajasthan to play U-13 and U-15 cricket but to no avail. His mentor instructed Pant to overhaul his entire batting technique to become a far better batsman. His turning point came when while playing U-19 cricket for Delhi against Assam. Pant scored 35 in his first innings, then hit 150 within the second innings, which he claims was the only important knock in his career.

Furthermore, on 1 February 2016, during the 2016 Under-19 Cricket World Cup squads, Pant scored an 18-ball half-century against ICC associate member Nepal, the fastest at this level.

In 2017, Rishab’s father passed away due to a cardiac arrest.

Domestic Career

Rishabh Pant played his first-class debut on 22 October 2015 in the 2015–16 Ranji Trophy. Furthermore, he made his List A debut within the 2015–16 Vijay Hazare Trophy in the same month. Moreover, in the 2016–17 Ranji Trophy, while playing a match against Maharashtra, Rishab scored 308 runs in the innings, becoming the third-youngest Indian to attain a triple ton in first-class cricket.

On 8 November 2016, Rishab scored the fastest ton in the Ranji Trophy, in just 48 balls, in Delhi’s match against Jharkhand.

Furthermore, in February 2017, Rishabh Pant became Delhi’s captain for the 2016–17 Vijay Hazare Trophy. He came in place Gautam Gambhir, who led Delhi to the ultimate of the previous season. Delhi coach Bhaskar Pillai said it had been a “consensus decision” to organize Pant for the longer term.

On 14 January 2018, within the 2017–18 Zonal T20 League match between Himachal Pradesh and Delhi, Pant scored the second-fastest century during a Twenty20 game, making 100 from 32 balls.

The Delhi Daredevils purchased Rishabh Pant before the 2016 Indian Premier League. He scored a century for the U-19 team on an equivalent day within the 2016 U-19 Cricket World Cup, guiding them into the semi-finals. Playing just his third match for the squad, Pant made 69 runs off 40 balls to assist Delhi to secure an eight-wicket victory over Gujarat Lions. Within the 2017 season, he scored 97 runs from 43 balls against an equivalent team.

During the 2018 Indian Premier League, Rishabh Pant scored an unbeaten 128 from 63 balls against the Sunrisers Hyderabad. This became the then highest individual score by an Indian cricketer in IPL history. He also became the second-youngest player to attain a century within the IPL. In March 2021, Rishab became the captain of the Delhi Capitals for the 2021 Indian Premier League.

International Career

In January 2017, Rishabh Pant joined India’s Twenty20 International squad for their series against England. Furthermore, he made his debut for India within the third T20I against England at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bangalore, on 1 February 2017. Rishab became the youngest player to play for India during a T20I match at 19 years of age.

In July 2018, Rishabh Pant further joined India’s Test squad for the series against England. Furthermore, he made his Test debut against England on 18 August 2018. He became the primary batsman for India to start in Test cricket with a six within the series. On 11 September 2018, Pant scored his maiden Test century against England. He became the second-youngest wicket-keeper and therefore the first Indian wicket-keeper to attain a Test century in England.

Furthermore, Pant is slowly becoming the go-to choice of the selectors for the upcoming series. 

Furthermore, Rishab Pant got his name in the ICC Men’s Test Test Team of the Year for the year 2021.
