In this fantastic world of cricket, there are many great names around. Even among the most known players, there are still some who stand out from this crowd. This article will talk about one of those players only: Kane Williamson.

Kane Williamson is a New Zealand international cricketer who is the captain of the national team in all the formats. He’s a right-handed batsman and an occasional off-spin bowler as well. Williamson became the only New Zealander to be named within the ICC Test Team of the last decade.

In June 2021, he captained his squad to the opening match of the ICC World Test Championship. Furthermore, in November 2021, he led New Zealand to the ultimate the ICC T20 World Cup.

Personal Life

Kane Williamson was born on 8 August 1990 in New Zealand. His father, Brett, used to be a sales representative who played U-17 and club cricket in the country, and his mother Sandra was a representative basketeer. 

Williamson played senior cricket at the age of fourteen and first-class cricket at sixteen. He went to Tauranga Boys’ College from 2004–2008, where he was head boy in his final year. He received coaching by Pacey Depina, who described Williamson as having “a thirst to be phenomenal – but not at anyone else’s expense.”

Domestic Career

Kane Williamson made his debut for Northern Districts at the age of 17, with whom he has remained for all the duration of his domestic career. He scored his first Twenty20 century on 19 September 2014, scoring 101* in 49 balls to take Northern Districts to a comfortable win against Cape Cobras in Champions Trophy Twenty20 2014.

Williamson signed for Gloucestershire to play within the 2011 English county season. Moreover, on 14 August 2013, he signed for Yorkshire for the remainder of the season and signed to come back for the 2014 season, when his side would win the County Championship. Furthermore, he signed to return a part of the 2015 season. Still, when on-duty overseas player Aaron Finch didn’t join the Australia ODI squad, Yorkshire ultimately chose to increase Finch’s deal in situ of Williamson. He subsequently signed an agreement for a part of the 2016 season and returned for a quarter of the 2018 season.

IPL Career

In February 2015, Kane Williamson joined the Indian Premier League side Sunrisers Hyderabad. He played for the side with the 2016 season, winning the title, and got picked again for the 2017 and 2018 seasons. Furthermore, he remained captain of the squad in 2018, in place of David Warner. Under Williamson, Sunrisers Hyderabad finished runners-up, and he became the tournament’s top-scorer, with 735 runs. In 2021, Kane took over the captaincy from David Warner within the middle of the season. However, SRH finished last within the tournament, winning only three matches.

International Career

Kane Williamson made his ODI debut against India on 10 August 2010. He got out for a 9th ball duck. He got bowled out by Angelo Mathews in his second match for a second-ball. Furthermore, he scored his maiden ODI century against Bangladesh on 14 October 2010 in Dhaka and became the youngest ton scorer in New Zealand’s cricket history. 

Kane made his Test cricket debut against India in Ahmedabad on 4 November 2010. He secured 131 runs off 299 balls in his first innings and became the eighth New Zealand player to attain a century on Test debut.

In June 2021, he took New Zealand to victory within the first match of the ICC World Test Championship, defeating India in the final by eight wickets. In August 2021, Williamson made captain to the latest Zealand squad for the 2021 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. Under Williamson, New Zealand reached their third consecutive ICC event final across all formats after beating England. Williamson scored an excellent knock of 85 off 48 balls in the final but ended alongside the losing side after being defeated by Australia by eight wickets. He was New Zealand’s top scorer within the tournament, with 216 runs at a mean of 43.20.

Best Performance

Kane Williamson showcased his class and registered his highest score in Tests as New Zealand dominated West Indies on Friday. It was the second day of the Hamilton Test. Williamson broke his previous highest score of 242, which he made against Sri Lanka in Wellington in 2015, and got dismissed for a powerful 251.

Williamson scored his 200 with two fours off Kemar Roach as New Zealand pushed for quick runs. Furthermore, with Blundell and Mitchell falling, the onus was on Kyle Jamieson to hold in with the Zealands’ skipper. He helped Kane Williamson score at a faster run rate. After scoring his double century, Williamson increased his scoring rate, and Kyle Jamieson also chipped in with some aggressive shots.
