Mitchell Marsh is an Australian cricketer. Marsh has played for Australia across all formats of the game. Furthermore, he played his debut during the 2011-12 season.

Mitchell Marsh had his name amongst the ICC Men’s T20I Team Of The Year in 2021.

Furthermore, apart from cricket earlier, Mitchell used to play football and represented Australia at the AFL U18 Championships in 2008.

Personal Life

Mitchell is the younger brother of Shaun Marsh. He is the son of Geoff Marsh. Both his father and his older brother have represented Australia internationally in cricket.

He also has a sister, Melissa Marsh, who previously was a professional basketball player. She used to play for the professional Australian Leagues. 

Mitchell is a native of Australia, born in Perth, Western Australia.

Domestic Career

Mitchell played his debut for the Warriors squad at just 17 years of age at the Ford Ranger Cup in 2009. With this debut, he became the youngest debutant in a One-Day game in Australia in the span of 70 years.

Furthermore, in 2009, he played with the Australian squad, which was part of the 2010 U19 Cricket World Cup. With Marsh as captain, the U19 Australian team won the competition. Mitchell scored a total of 201 runs, which included a match-winning knock of 97 runs against Sri Lanka in the semi-final.

Mitchell joined the Deccan Chargers for the 2010 season of the Indian Premier League. Furthermore, he joined the Pune Warriors for the 2011 segment of the Indian Premier League. Coincidently, the coach of the team was Marsh’s father. He played with the Pune franchise for a total of four seasons in total.

Earlier in 2014, while playing for Australia A against India A, he put up an amazing 211 runs coming in at no. 7, claiming his first-ever double century in his career. Mitchell Marsh, along with Sam Whiteman, made a total of 371 runs in the partnership, making an Australian record.

Furthermore, in 2020, Marsh signed a contract to ply for the Middlesex County Cricket Club in England. He was playing the T20 Blast competition as part of the squad. However, this move was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic outbreak.

Recently in 2022, Mitchell Marsh joined the Delhi Capitals for the 2022 edition of the Indian Premier League.

International Career

In the September of 2011, Mitchell joined Australia’s T20 squad for the tour to South Africa. Later, he joined the One-Day International squad due to Brett Lee’s injury. Marsh had an amazing debut for the squad, hitting a smashing 36 runs with four sixes.

Furthermore, he played his Test debut in 2014 against Pakistan in the United Arab Emirates.

Mitchell Marsh slowly became a regular One-Day player and took an amazing five-wicket haul in the ICC Cricket World Cup of 2015 against England. Moreover, he scored his first-ever One-Day International century against India in 2016.

In 2018, however, Marsh faced the penalty of a 20% match fee on account of the use of offensive language on the field.

The very next month, he received a national contract from the Cricket Australia side for the next season. Marsh also acted as a replacement for Marcus Stoinis before the 2019 edition of the Cricket World Cup.

Moving on, in 2019, Marsh fractured his bowling arm after punching a wall, right after being sent back to the dressing room against Tasmania. Because of that injury, he missed out on the start of the Australian Test summer. Again in 2020, he received a central contract from the federation for the next season.

In 2021, during the first match of the T20 International series against the West Indies squad, Marsh clenched his first-ever One-Day International half-century.

Mitchell Marsh was in amazing form for the whole series and put up splendid performances every time.

In 2021, Mitchell Marsh joined the Australian squad for the 2021 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. Furthermore, Marsh had a crucial role to play in order to help his team win the title. He was also named the Man of the Match with respect to his splendid performances throughout the season.
