Prithvi Shaw is an Indian cricketer. Shaw captained the U19 Indian Cricket Team that won the 2018 U19 World Cup. He is known as one of the Best Openers of India.

He plays for the Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League. Before the Mumbai Indians, Shaw played for the Delhi Capitals. In 2022, Shaw joined the Delhi Capitals again ahead of the Indian Premier League season of 2022.

In 2013, Shaw made the record of 546 runs just from 330 balls playing for Rizvi Springfield in a Harris Shield match. It came out to be the very best score in Indian school cricket.

Early Life

Prithvi Shaw is a native of Gaya, Bihar and belonging to a Bihari family. Shaw’s parents moved from Bihar to Thane, Maharashtra as a migrant in search of employment. In 2001, AAP Entertainment offered Shaw a contract that enabled Prithvi and his father to travel from Thane to Mumbai and keep on with his cricketing education. He also received sponsorship from Indian Oil.

Shaw received a deal worth Rs 36 lakhs with Sanspareils Greenlands, which cricketing stars like Sunil Gavaskar, Rahul Dravid, and Virender Sehwag were endorsed in the past.

In the documentary Beyond All Boundaries, Shaw was one main figure and has twice selected to visit England to further his cricketing education.

Domestic Career

Prithvi Shaw played for the Middle Income Group Club in Mumbai and captained Rizvi Springfield, high school, and the U16 Mumbai team. In November 2013, he set the highest score by any batsman during any organized cricket since 1901 after hitting 546 in a Harris Shield elite division match.

Under Shaw, Rizvi Springfield won 2 Harris Shield Trophies in 2012 and 2013. In 2012, he smashed 155 in the semi-final and 174 in the final game. Shaw trains at the MIG Cricket Club in Mumbai.

In April 2012, Shaw got the invitation to England to play for Cheadle Hulme School in Manchester and scored 1,446 runs over a two-month stay there. Furthermore, he scored a century on debut with an average of 84. Moreover, he also took 68 wickets.

Prithvi Shaw played his List A debut for Mumbai in the 2016–17 Vijay Hazare Trophy in February 2017. Within the 2017–18 Ranji Trophy, he scored his second consecutive century and fourth in five first-class matches since his debut, batting for Mumbai.

Furthermore, in 2021, Prithvi Shaw scored an unbeaten double-century against Pondicherry in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. 

After scoring 227* vs. Pondicherry within the Vijay Hazare Trophy, Prithvi Shaw has the best List A score in Men’s cricket. He scored 827 runs during the same tournament, the most runs scored in a single season.

International Career

Shaw joined India’s Test squad for the final two Tests against England, but he couldn’t play a single match. In 2018, he joined India’s Test squad for the series against the West Indies. Prithvi played his Test debut against West Indies in the same year. In his debut match, he scored his first-ever century in Tests and became the youngest batter to score a Test century on debut at 18 years of age.

Furthermore, India won the second Test by ten wickets, with Shaw winning the Player of the Series award. In 2020, Shaw was named in India’s at some point International (ODI) squad for their series against New Zealand. He made his ODI debut for India, against New Zealand, on 5 February 2020.

Furthermore, Prithvi Shaw was also Selected For Test Series In New Zealand and Scored one half-century in 4 innings. He Played therein series. In 2020, Shaw joined the Indian test squad for the Australian tour. In December 2020, Shaw had a poor performance in the first Test against Australia, scoring 0 and 4, during which his batting technique was questioned, and he didn’t play in the next match.

In June 2021, he joined India’s One-Day International and Twenty20 International squads for their series against Sri Lanka. Furthermore, he scored 43 runs from 24 balls in the first One-Day International of the 3-match series. He made his T20I debut in 2021 for India against Sri Lanka.

IPL Career

In January 2018, Prithvi Shaw joined the Delhi Daredevils within the 2018 IPL auction for ₹ 1.2 crores. On 23 April 2018, Shaw became the youngest player to open batting within the Indian Premier League history at 18 while playing for Delhi Daredevils against Kings XI Punjab.

On 27 April 2018, his blistering knock of 62 runs helped Delhi Daredevils secure a comfortable 55-run victory against KKR.
