Ranganath Vinay Kumar came into the world on February 12, 1984, in Davanager, Karnataka. So, He is 38 years old. Vinay Kumar is a Bowler, even a Right-hand batsman, and a Right-arm medium bowler. He is much aware of his strengths as a medium pacer. 

Ranganath Vinay Kumar was popularly known as Davangere Express. Vinay Kumar is a bowler, who is more of a seam and swing. He counts more on leg cutters, steady balls, and reliability than on pace. He took a short run-up to the ridge, bringing on a decent pace, and his stock ball is inch-perfect. Vinay Kumar takes over a short ball, his pace sometimes would surprise the batsman. 

Vinay Kumar evolved the swing-arm delivery according to Malinga. During the 2011 IPL season, he took the wicket of Chris Gayle. 

R Vinay Kumar: Debut 

Vinay’s consistently outstanding performance at the Domestic level paid off for him. He made it to the ICC T20 World Cup. Vinay Kumar played against Sri Lanka while on his debut, he had a perfect score of 2/30. He played against Zimbabwe in 2010 during his ODI debut. Though India lost the match. In 2012, his only Test series played against Australia in Perth. 

Davangere Express: Career

During 2004-05, Vinay Kumar started his career. He earned the name very soon in the Cricket world by taking more than 20 wickets. Vinay had his debut in Ranji Trophy. He took more than 20 wickets in every three first-class seasons. He evolved his bowling style by adding an inswinger to his range. Being consistent paid him off by earning an IPL contract with Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). He was signed as an RCB player in 2008. 

Vinay Kumar was the second foremost wicket-keeper in his debut in Ranji Trophy. During 2009-10, he took 46 wickets in the Ranji Trophy season. Furthermore, he would mentor his fast-bowling colleagues. After 11 years, Karnataka took part in the Ranji trophy led by Abhimanyu Mithun and S Aravind under Vinay’s mentorship. 

Indeed, seeing his performance, selectors allowed him to play in the T20 World cup held in the Caribbean, in 2010. He earned a bid in IPL Auction 2011, he got in the Kochi Tuskers team of Kerala. Vinay Kumar was off-market for USD 475,000. Additionally, he performed outstandingly in IPL 2011, and he received the chance to become part of the West Indies ODI Series.

In fact, in the 2011-12 season, He made his place in India’s Test Team for the first time. He was substituting one of the injured player, Varun Aaron. Vinay made his path through Test debut in the third or fourth match series that took place in Perth. He took one wicket and earned 73 runs in the match. Though his startling performance went unnoticed.


Role Of RCB Leading Wicket-taker 

He had an opportunity to be part of Royal challengers Bangalore during 2008. But after his performance in Test Debut went unnoticed. Still, he made his way to play as an RCB player and received an offer of 1 million dollars. He played for RCB in IPL 5, in 2012. Vinay earned the title as leading wicket-taker for continuous seasons, taking 19 wickets in 2012 and 23 wickets in 2013. 

Demotion Of Vinay’s Career 

As Australia came to India during October-November in 2013, He scored 8 wickets in 5 matches. He received a lot of denunciation for his performance, as he was high-priced in the death overs. Vinay Kumar was left behind by the team for the West Indies and South Africa ODI tours. The tours were planned for November and December 2013. 

Ranji Trophy Performance 

Though, he continued to play in the Ranji Trophy from Karnataka. He led them and once again earned the title. They earned the title for the 7th time for Karnataka. He earned the title as wicket-taker for Karnataka, by earning 29 wickets. Vinay even scored an unforgettable century in the Karnataka Ranji Trophy match. He had a startling career in the Vijay Hazare trophy further, earning 28 wickets for his team Karnataka and blowing off the charts.

So, performing on charts in the domestic circuit, he becomes part of Kolkata Knight Riders. During the 2014 IPL Auction, he received an offer for 2.8 crores. He led his team to a win over RCB by defending 9 runs off in the final over. He startled everyone with his performance. Also, Kolkata being crowned as champion was the cherry on the cake. Vinay earned all the titles through his hard work in the field. 

Under the Leadership of Vinay Kumar, they earned all the titles for two consecutive years and made history. However, the titles earned were Ranji Trophy, Vijay Hazare, and Syed Mushtaq. Mumbai Indians took him under their wing in 2015 from Kolkata Knight Riders.  

Vinay Kumar earned a renowned name in the world of Cricket. He gave outstanding performances in various tournaments. Currently, he is living in Puducherry as he felt it was time to migrate from Karnataka.
