Ravikumar Samarth made his first-class debut for Karnataka during the 2013-14 season, after competing at several age-level events. He opened the game with a superb 75 against Mumbai, a performance that served as a springboard for further victories. Samarth scored 487 runs at an average of slightly over 40 in the 2015-16 Indian domestic season, but the 2016-17 season witnessed the emergence of a formidable top-order batsman.

With 702 runs at 46.80, Ravikumar Samarth easily became Karnataka’s best run-scorer, assuring that national selectors would keep a watch on him in the future. When the India ‘A’ squad toured their South African counterparts for two unofficial four-day Tests, he was called up as an injured substitute for Abhinav Mukund.

During the domestic season, the Bangalore lad continued to assert himself. Samarth scored 652 runs in 12 innings at an average of 59.27 in the 2017/18 Ranji Trophy season, and was a key factor in Karnataka reaching the Ranji semi-finals and winning the Vijay Hazare Trophy a few months later. Despite his outstanding achievements, Samarth was unable to secure a bid and was thus unable to participate in the IPL auctions.
