Wanindu Hasaranga is a professional Sri Lankan cricketer who has represented his country in all three formats of the game. In July 2017, he made his international debut for Sri Lanka. Chaturanga de Silva, his elder brother, has also played for the national squad. Wanindu Hasaranga, drafted straight from Sri Lanka’s under-19s into the national team, is an aggressive middle order batsman who can also bowl leggies.

Early Career

Wanindu Hasaranga began in the age divisions largely as a leg-spinner. Hasaranga made his List A debut in the AIA Premier Limited Over Tournament on November 30, 2015. He was nominated to Sri Lanka’s Under-19 Cricket World Cup squad in December 2015. On February 26, 2016, he made his first-class debut for Sri Lanka Ports Authority Cricket Club in the 2015–16 Premier League Tournament.

He made an impression at the 2016 Youth World Cup. Wanindu Hasaranga’s batting, on the other hand, quickly took over and outperformed his bowling as he racked up remarkable stats for Colombo Cricket Club in the two seasons of the Premier League event.
